[NIV] REV 11:3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth." REV 11:4 These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands that stand before the Lord of the earth. REV 11:5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. REV 11:6 These men have power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want. REV 11:7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. REV 11:8 Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. REV 11:9 For three and a half days men from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. REV 11:10 The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth. REV 11:11 But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. REV 11:12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here." And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on.This prophecy actually falls into the Signs in the Sky category but it is so unique and detailed that I have separated it to highlight it. As you have read John got a very specific vision. He said that two men would be killed in the streets of Jerusalem, where the Lord was crucified, and their dead bodies would be seen lying in the streets by the whole world. Well how was that possible before this generation, before satellite TV. The Ayatollah Khomeini, gave us an example of this very event when he displayed the bodies of the dead marines that were killed trying to rescue the Embassy hostages in Iran. The Ayatollah broadcasted that scene via satellite for the whole world to see. So will the killer of these men, the Antichrist, display the bodies of the two witnesses. The Gulf War, Bosnia, Kosovo, Serbia, Afghanistan and CNN nightly news are examples of men’s fascination with death and destruction on an everyday basis.
Think about this now. These two prophets will have their headquarters in Jerusalem, which will just happen to be the head quarters of the world dictator at that time whom the bible calls the Antichrist. God’s two prophets will be speaking against this man as often and as publicly as they can. They will be telling this dictator and his followers exactly how they are breaking God’s laws and foretelling his fate if he doesn’t repent. And to backup their commentary they will curse his kingdom with plagues at every opportunity.
For over three years he has been trying to kill them, but all the men he sent out against them were killed and now, suddenly, these two prophets are dead. The Antichrist is going to be positively ecstatic about this unexpected victory. He’ll probably throw a party as he beams the images of their dead bodies around the world. Probably saying, “See they are dead as I promised. This proves I am god.” This party will be short lived however because three days later they come back to life and rise into Heaven. Now the cameras that have been trained on them for three days wont miss the opportunity to follow their assent into the sky. And all their enemies will see them rise to Heaven. It will be a rapture that is beamed world wide via satellite. Something that wasn’t even invented until this last century.
Without satellite communications it would be imposable for the whole world to see these two bodies lying in the streets of Jerusalem. Every night we watch CNN broadcasts from around the world and quite often from the very streets of Jerusalem we are talking about here. But this was not possible when John wrote this almost 2000 years ago on the isle of Patmos in the Aegean Sea. This information proves that John was given a prophecy about the distant future of mankind. And since this is so accurate think of what this implies for the world and mankind when we read the rest of the events depicted in the book of Revelations. The accurate fulfillment of this prophecy also pinpoints this generation as the last generation before Christ returns.

Jesus is plainly telling us through this that we need to learn the prophesies so we will know what is about to happen in God’s plan. All the signs were there in Prophesy when He came the first time. So there was no excuse for the Religious Leaders of His time to have not known what to look for. They knew enough to tell King Herod to look for the baby in Bethlehem, but they stopped there and didn’t pursue it any further, therefore most of them missed Him. Is the Church today missing the foretold signs as well? For the most part Yes!But if you’re reading this you won’t miss them.
